Child Development Center

High-Quality Childcare

The CDC is committed to providing children with high-quality care, exceeding licensing standards. We provide care to infants, toddlers, and preschool-aged children. Group sizes are small, lower than licensing standards and those typically found in private child care settings.

NAEYC Accredited

Well Educated & Experienced Teachers

All CDC teachers have a Child Development Master Teacher Permit, or higher issued by the State of California. Many have B.A. degrees in Early Childhood Education and or currently working on attaining their Bachelor’s. Teachers stay current in the field, making continuous improvements and using "best practices" including updated curriculum and assessment techniques.

Curriculum

The CDC offers an array of individual and group activities every day. We are a play-based center meaning that it is our belief that children learn through their play and experiences. Through participation in self-selected activities, children have the opportunity to develop initiative, make decisions, and assume responsibility for their choices. A common theme that runs throughout the curriculum emphasizes the richness of cultural diversity issues, e.g., gender equity, ethnicity, ageism, and special needs. Our program supports children’s social and emotional development by:

    • Building trust

    • Planning routines and transitions so they can occur in a timely, predictable, and unhurried manner.

    • Helping children develop emotional security and facility in social relationships.

Our program provides for all children’s cognitive development, language skills, and physical skills by:

    • Using various strategies including experimentation, inquiry, observation, play, and exploration.

    • Ensuring opportunities for creative self-expression through activities such as art, music, movement, and dialogue.

    • Promoting interaction and language use among children am between children and adults.

    • Supporting emerging literacy and numeracy development.

    • Providing sufficient time indoor and outdoor for physical development.

    • Promoting and maintaining practices that are healthy and safe.

Assessments, Activity Plans, & Parent Conferences

All children enrolled in the program a minimum of 10 hours a week will have a Desired Results Developmental Profile (DRDP) completed on them within the first 60days of enrollment. An additional DRDP will be done within the next 90 days of enrollment. The data from the DRDP will be used to inform activity plans and used to do a conduct a parent-teacher conferences 2 times a semester. Activity plans are to be posted for students and parents review. Individualized activity plans occur after the first assessment cycle.

Meals & Snacks

All meals and snacks provided by Butte College Child Development center are highly-nutritious and meet the USDA and California Department of Education nutritional guidelines and recommendations. The CDC's food program is funded by the Child and Adult Care Food Program (CACFP).

The CDC provides all children with a nutritious breakfast and snack, prepared on-site. In terms of lunches:

    • Preschool Children (ages 30 months to 5) are provided lunch daily. Food is prepared and delivered daily by Butte's cafeteria. The California State Preschool Program (CSPP) grant that was awarded to the CDC mandates that lunches be provided for preschool children.

    • Parents of infants and toddlers provide their children lunches. Specific policies will be shared with all families prior to the start of the semester to ensure that nutritional guidelines are followed and children's health and safety concerns are addressed.

Meals and snacks are provided by the Child Development Center are served family-style and children are encouraged to serve themselves when they are able. Children also learn about nutrition during meal times. Meals at the CDC are intended to be a time for relaxing conversation and good nutrition.
